몬테베르디: 윤리적이고 종교적인 숲
몬테베르디는 베니스의 성 마르코 대성당의 예배와 행사를 위해 1640년에 윤리적이고 종교적인 숲(selva morale e spirituale) 이라는 전례음악 모음집을 작곡했으며 이것은 1641년에 베네치아에서 출판되었다. 작곡가 말년의 작품집으로 각기 다른 시기에 작곡된 작품들을 수집하여 그의 말년에 발표한 곡집이다. 이곡은 성악합주와 기악솔로가 서로 뚜렷한 대비 효과를 보이게 작곡된 협주 양식으로 바로크적 성향이 ·농후한 곡이다. 또한, 교회음악의 대가다운 드라마틱한 힘이 느껴지는 곡이다.
