세상에 첫 선을 보이는 팝 가스펠
[LIBERA]: ①구원하다 ②(누구를) 자유롭게 하다
[리베라]는 과거로부터, 전통으로부터 출발하고 있다. 하지만, 과거에 머물지 않는다. 그들의 과거에 발을 디디고, 현재를 그리고 미래를 꿈꾼다.
7살부터 14살까지의 소년들의 아름답고 티없이 맑은 음성과 리더이며 작곡자인 프라이즈만이 만들어내는 특유의 환상적인 분위기는 이제까지 소년 합창단에게서 느껴보지 못한 또다른 감동과 평화를 전해준다.
‘구원하소서’라는 뜻의 리베라는 전 세계적으로 잘 알려진 영국의 세인트 필립스(St.Philips)소년 합창단에서 재능있고 어린 소년들을 중심으로 새롭게 구성한 팀입니다. 신비스럽고 환상적인 화음과 영혼을 감동시키는 맑은 소리를 지닌 리베라는 국내에서도 폭넓은 사랑을 받고 있다.
2000년에 발매된 데뷔반 <리베라>에 이어 2001년 가을, 그들이 소개하는 두번째 음반<아베 마리아>는 더욱 빼어난 심미안의 산물이다. 카치니의 '아베 마리아'를 비롯하여 생상스의 '동물의 사육제', 베토벤 '교향곡 7번', 드뷔시의 '달빛', 피헬벨의 '카논'등 유명한 클래식 작품들의 선율들이 눈부신 화성으로 옷을 갈아입는다.
이미 루치아노 파바로티, 엘튼 존 등의 앨범에 등장하기도 했던 [리베라]의 후원자로는 닐 다이아몬드, 클리프 리차드, 마이클 크로포드 등 저명한 대중 음악인이 다수 포함된다.
리베라는 <로미오와 줄리엣>, <한니발>등의 영화음악을 비롯하여 비욕, 엘튼 존, 파바로티 등과 함께 노래하였고, 플레이스테이션 게임 배경음악을 녹음하기도 했다. 또한 포스코, SK텔레콤, 대한항공 등 20여개가 넘는 국내 유명 CF 광고 음악으로 사용될 만큼 들으면 감동받을 수 있는 편안하고 친근감 있는 음악이다.
팝의 언어로 발음한 종교음악, 교회 밖으로 나온 성가, 대중음악의 코드와 신비로운 중세 교회 음악의 코드를 가장 정확히 꿰뚫어 본 것이 바로 [리베라]이다. 한마디로 [리베라]는 세상에서 처음 시도되는 뉴에이지풍 '팝 가스펠'이다.
<LIBERA><Ave Maria-Luminosa>(Warner Music),<Free>(EMI)등의 음반을 이미 국내에 출시한 리베라는 클래식에서 팝까지 폭 넓고 다양한 레퍼토리, 그리고 몽환적이며 신비로운 음악 스타일로 잘 알려져 있습니다. 특히 특유의 오케스트레이션 창법으로 기존의 종교음악에만 머물지 않고 팝 음악적 요소들을 절충한 ‘팝 가스펠’로써 더 회화적이며 극적인 이미지와 환상적인 사운드를 선보이고 있다.
